Humantay Lake Humantay Lake is an ideal blend of cultural and natural beauty. We will enjoy the ecosystem’s challenge as well as the breathtaking view of the snow-capped Salkantay (6264m/20551f), the most representative mountain in the Vilcabamba mountain range. The walk transports us back to the Inca era and makes us conscious of the spirits of mountains like Tucarhuay and Humantay, both of which have peaks higher than 5000m (16404 feet).
Starts: 4:30 am – Pick up from your hotel in Cusco city.
Ends: 6:00 pm – Drop off at the door of your hotel.
Your amazing day will start at 4:30 am when the guide comes to pick you up from your Cusco hotel. We will travel three hours to reach the Soraypampa trailhead, which is situated in the verdant Apurimac River valley.
Walk down the “Camino Real,” a path that gradually gains altitude. We continue for an additional hour and a half after arriving at a little traditional town, climbing 1,200 feet (366 meters) in about two miles along a steep path. We will look down on a turquoise lake encircled by towering peaks and an outstanding glacier after cresting the last hill.
One of Peru’s holiest peaks, Salkantay Mountain rises directly above you on the trek at 20,600 feet (6,279 meters) with a precipitous, snow-covered face. Viewed is the equally spectacular Humantay Peak, which rises to 19,412 feet (5,917 meters). Blessings are given by shamans and adherents of ancient Andean beliefs upon arriving at the glistening Humantay Lake.
We unwind, munch on a snack, or offer prayers to Pachamama (Mother Earth) once we get at the lakefront. We go back down to Soraypampa and enjoy a hot lunch while taking in the stunning views of the snow-capped peaks. When you’re ready to hike back down, we hike back down. We travel back to Cusco, exhausted after such a lovely day, and drop you off at your accommodation at almost five o’clock.

Flying into the airport in Cusco is the most convenient method of transportation. You must first schedule a flight to Lima and then a domestic flight to the airport in Cusco. You can then take a bus or a cab to your Cusco hotel.
There are many of choices for places to stay in Cusco. A hotel, hostel, or even an Airbnb or flat are your options. The hotels that are suggested are:
Select lodging close to the route access and main centre. Certain hotels may be outside the route and difficult to get to, particularly if you are picking them up early or dropping them off late.
Situated in the Salkantay region on the eastern side of the Peruvian Andes, Humantay Lake is a breathtaking glacier lake. It is renowned for its stunning surroundings and turquoise colour, and it is located at the foot of Mount Humantay. Popular activities around the lake include hiking, camping, and photography.
You will need to take a bus from Cusco to the town of Mollepata in order to reach Humantay Lake. You must take a private cab from Mollepata to the trailhead in Soraypampa village. You will need to walk for around two hours to reach the lake from Soraypampa. Although the trail is not very challenging, it is advised that you wear appropriate footwear and carry a lot of water.
The most convenient way to see Humatay Lake is by scheduled trip; to really appreciate these exceptional locations, work with a firm such as TreXperience.
The only way to get to Humantay Lake is on foot, and hiking is a great way to get some exercise. Numerous paths with different degrees of difficulty ascend to the lake. After arriving at the lake, there are lots of spots to unwind or go for a little walk. It’s not permitted to swim or fish in the usually chilly water.
It is also not permitted to picnic. But you can still have your favourite snack, and you can still drink warm water. Just be careful not to leave any rubbish behind.
At Humantay Lake, there are lots of things to do, like hiking, horseback riding, and just taking in the gorgeous surroundings. Camping and picnics are two more fantastic activities around the lake. The Soraypampa trailhead village is the only place to camp and have picnics.
May through September is when Humantay Lake is most beautiful. There’s less possibility of rain and the temperature is pleasant. A great time to visit is also during the rainy season, when the scenery is more colourful and verdant.
Yes, there are potential risks at Humantay Lake, just like on every outdoor adventure tour.
We did the 1 day Inka trail which was a moderate to strenuous at times 8 miles of beauty. Thanks to Lucio the trip was informative, fun and safe. The cool Urbano and the porters somehow created a delicious lunch on the trail and coming over the sun gate entrance in the afternoon was truly a wonder of the world!
In July we joined Ronaldo and the rest of the group at Alpaca Trek Adventures for a walk through the Andes with Alpacas and Llamas. Ronaldo went out of his way to make sure we had a great experience. I would strongly recommend looking him up if you’re planning a trip to Peru.
It was a wonderful experience that I can recommend to everyone. It was excellently organized by Reynaldo and Margot. We had a wonderful guide, Sandro, and a driver. I highly recommend this unique and beautiful experience.
I spent this delightful day with Reyando and his wife Margot on a walk through a beautiful eucalyptus forest, along with their llamas and alpacas. There was a magical quality about walking in the quiet with these delightful animals.
